Rock tumbling slag stone and beach pebbles, Loretone tumbler, www.Fenne.be

Between spring and autumn, the rock tumbler works almost non-stop to smoothen and polish the rocks I’ve been collecting during winter and early spring.

The slag stones are local finds from hikes in the woods where you can find them almost everywhere if you keep your eyes open, but the egg-like pebbles are from England. Lying there dry on a pebble beach, they looked rather dull, but with every wash of the sea, their beautiful marks turned beautifully vibrant. It was hard to pick only a few!

In the picture below, you can see the transformative power of the tumbler. Both rocks had similar colors and marks and even though they were relatively smooth from the start, the tumbling process has a similar effect as the sea- it brings out the details and colors.
