Earlier this week, I got a chilly reminder from autumn that its arrival has already begun.
When I went for a walk in the woods with my dogs (they all dressed up in their Hurtta gear), I was forced to conclude that my raincoat could not keep me dry in the pouring rain.

Apart from that moody day, we’ve been blessed with misty mornings and summery noons, a delicious combination that hopefully will continue for a while!

Earlier I wrote a blog post about how the changing seasons make me reevaluate my work, and since I’m a visual thinker, I made an autumn moodboard for the studio.

I collected some natural elements, postcards, images, and sketches, and swatched neocolor II and Gansai tambi colors on Karst stone paper. When making this moodboard, I considered what I wanted to show as much as what needed to be left out, reminding myself of a few focus points in my work.

For example, I love all the prettiness, flavors, and coziness that come with the fall season, but it’s not something I want to spend time on this year. I won’t be illustrating recipes for apple cake/knitted socks/pies/cute stuff, or photographing those things. As you can see, I didn’t include many warm colors as I love how autumn feels more introspective and moody after a vibrant summer. I love a pop of color, represented by the neon pink washi tape (although I will probably use vermillion red).
