Inktober, week 4
And just like that, Inktober 2024 is done!
It’s been a busy month with many experiments, some illustrations that I really like, and some that I’m hesitant to show- but they are all part of the journey.
While Inktober has been around for a while, I joined for the first time.
So…
- I joined as a way to challenge myself, work with subjects that I otherwise might not pick or get a chance for, and experiment. I did quite a lot of work, and the time pressure made me decide fast and not overthink.
- The community aspect is often mentioned when doing art challenges online, but I didn’t notice any of that (and didn’t look for it). After joining Threads last week, I mostly saw people complaining about artists who work on it for longer than 10 minutes, and who prepare beforehand. I mean, I need at least 10 minutes to prepare my ink and plate so we wouldn’t be friends haha.
My opinion? If you want me to follow your rules, you will have to pay me. - Many seemed to join the challenges to find new followers and were disappointed that this didn’t happen or that their engagement got worse. I can’t compare it to other years and I joined only to challenge myself.
- Most artists shared the more traditional linework drawings and it’s great to see all the different styles and approaches of the subjects.
- The prompts were fine for me. Except for ‘journal’ which I skipped after we already had ‘guidebook’, there were plenty of options for most words.

With November at our door, new challenges will be hosted and the one that interests me the most is ‘Folktale week’. Last year I had a great time working with these prompts together with a few other illustrators, sharing our work and thoughts. Also, it’s not a whole week, but just one week + some time to prepare.
Here are my illustrations for the final week of Inktober 2024:
21. Rhinoceros
22. Camp (Alexander Supertramp)
23. Rust (climate change disasters)
24. Expedition
25. Scarecrow
26. Camera (Big Brother is watching, do we have an escape?)
27. Road
28. Jumbo
29. Navigator
30. Violin
31. Landmark (Atomium, Brussels, Belgium)
