May sketches
Another busy month has flown by and I think I have been drawing every single day. The Royal Talens sketchbooks I used the most, but I’ve also been scribbling in notebooks, project notebooks, and even a bit on the Ipad.
On a beautiful sunny spring day, I visited Oostende, a coastal city in Belgium. I didn’t plan on sketching as I had planned to visit several museums, but at some point, I ended up at a little festival where the band “Malahide” was playing old sailor songs. The musicians were fascinating but also extremely hard to draw so fast. Great practice.
Tj’s Patreon session was all about night views and she had some great tips on the use of colors and materials. As always I struggled with buildings, but that’s ok. It’s a lot more fun when you’re drawing together, on my own I just dislike drawing buildings 🙂
Artist Katie Moody recently visited Japan and organized 2 drawing sessions with the photographs of this trip.
The school where I’m taking printmaking classes had a friends-week. The idea was mostly for children as they could bring a friend to class, but the adults could try classes too. Curious as I am, I joined the drawing and painting classes.
During the painting class, I got to try water-based oil paint for the first time and I got such incredible tips, I learned a lot! The painting is still on the drying rack, but I did get some pictures from the drawing classes:
Sessions about negative space and shadows:
Then I accidentally used oil paint in my A5 sketchbook and now I have to wait 5 million years for it to dry 😀
