Permeke museum & Brugge

Constant Permeke (Antwerpen, 31 July 1886 – Oostende, 4 January 1952) was a Belgian expressionist painter and sculptor. He is considered a leading figure of Flemish* expressionism, often painting fishermen or farmers in moody colors and strong contrasts.
In Jabbeke, you can visit the house where he lived and worked after the 2nd World War. He designed it himself, and it has 3 incredible workspaces.
Flemish-Dutch is the language spoken in Flanders, the northern part of Belgium.

At the museum, a guide talked us through the life and work of Permeke, highlighting key events and influences. I’d love to go back and take my time to see and read everything.
Afterward, we continued our journey to Brugge for the “Rebel Garden” exhibition, with 3 locations to visit- but we only managed to do 2 and a short walk through the beautiful city.
