Did I get ginger biscuits just because I used to read about them in the Famous Five books? Yep! Very much.
I even texted a good friend who lives in England to ask about the most traditional, old-fashioned type of ginger cookies, to get as close as possible to the ones described in the books :-).

I remember vividly that a few decades ago, I asked my mom for ginger cookies because I was so curious and it wasn’t a common type of biscuit in Belgium. I have no idea if my mom baked them or found some in a shop, all I can remember, almost 30 years later is the poignant disappointment, almost like a heartbreak, that I didn’t like the taste at all.
But I can tell you this, I did like the cookies that we got in England! In fact, I liked them so much that I tried different types. My favorite was a thicker version with tiny pieces of ginger in them and a thin coat of chocolate! So good!
And to be honest, this felt like a huge relief :-))

May was definitely a superb month for a Famous Five fan like me. Not only did we finally visit England, but just when we visited Belgium, I found out that two comics based on the Famous Five books were published AND we managed to find them!!

And now super excited that two more comics are announced to be available soon! The next one (Five run away together) is my absolute favorite book of the series so I’m super curious how they have adapted the story (and secretly hoping that they kept the cave).
