Picking berries and mushrooms
Berry-picking is probably the opposite of a normal hike in many ways. While hiking, our gaze seeks for the horizon, for far away sights and a calm blue relief from the endeavors. Hiking is a movement that goes forward. Step by step.
While picking berries or mushrooms, you walk in useless circles with eyes that only see one color anymore. Dark blue for blueberries, orange for cloudberries, yellow for mushrooms and red for lingon.
But I got distracted. In the dark blue mindset, I suddenly found a lost bright yellow balloon, wandering through the woods. “Grattis,” it said (congrats). With looking up from my berry-seeking-zombie-walk, I also wanted to capture the beautiful low sunlight that was shining through the trees. And the tiniest fresh sprouts and the moss, softer than my bed.
But we had some berries to find for our winter stock of jams and other forest goodies 🙂
